We leave the Stockholm archipelago and sail across the open Baltic Sea, passing Landsort with its famous lighthouse (see below) to the (south)west. From 19.5° – our easternmost position of this trip – we work our way up to 16.5° before heading straight south for a longer period. After a fantastic day of sailing (see above), we land once again in the middle of the archipelago, this time in the much less frequented maze of islands around the old seaside resort of Arkösund (see below).
Above: Navigating the archipelago here is even more nerve-racking than around Stockholm. Below: Expecting an approaching thunderstorm, we hide in a beautiful anchorage, where hail soon thunders down on the deck of SY Blue Layla. We’re delighted when a large Hallberg-Rassy parks next to us—hopefully, its tall mast will catch all the lightning. After the storm, there are dreamy cloud formations in the sky, and the sweet smell of barbecue wafts over from the Rassy.
