North of the 60th parallel

On the way to the Åland Islands, SY Blue Layla crossed the 60th parallel for the fourth time in her life. From here, life becomes noticeably quieter – and the search for a berth for the night becomes less stressful. Still in the Gulf of Bothnia, but now back on the Swedish side, SY Blue Layla continues to sail north.

For centuries, iron ore was mined, smelted, and shipped at Axmar Bruk. Today, SY Blue Layla uses the ancient pier, and the crew enjoys meals in the former steelworks.

From here on we make good time in order to reach Höga Kusten, the ultimate destination of our trip.
